What's Happening In Careers?

Latest Update (2023-24 Term 1b)

Year 11 Mock Interview Day

On December 19th all Year 11 pupils were given the opportunity to complete a mock interview day with an external employer. 36 representatives from a range of industries completed interviews with our learners either face to face or online. One Employer even called in from India to complete his interviews to highlight the ever changing world of business communication. The feedback for the event was excellent with employers commenting on how well our students conducted themselves throughout.

Below is an email received from Alexandria Parchment who represented Department for Work and Pensions.

‘Thank you for having me today at your Careers event, it was an absolute pleasure meeting your students and speaking to them about their achievements and future goals. I was really impressed with how confident, articulate and focussed they all were, they truly are a credit to themselves and their school. I felt inspired, even as an employer, by their thirst for life and success, especially by some of the questions they asked.’

Year 11 Careers Drop Down Day

In order to ensure students were fully prepared for their mock interview, a drop down day for Year 11 was held on December 11th. Students received interview skill guidance from ‘Make Happen’ as well as a chance to work through and improve their CV’s and Personal Statements. There was also additional sessions on Unifrog, a platform that will drive our Careers provision. The day was supported with talks from further education providers with both our Sixth form and Seevic College represented.

Year 8 and 9 Careers Lessons (Whole year group)

Students were exposed to the Unifrog platform and given the chance to raise aspirations by completing activities on the platform. The sessions were then tied in with the subject lesson they were in at the time to look at future career opportunities linked to that specific subject.

Site Visits

Students in Year 10 and 11 studying construction and Engineering were given the opportunity for a guided tour of the new builds on the school field. The site manager met with over 100 students across the week to talk them through what has gone into completing the project. This was an amazing opportunity for our students who have watched the build from their classroom window over the duration of the term.

‘It was a pleasure to welcome the students to the facilities that we have provided for St Clere’s School – The students were impeccably behaved during the supervised visits and asked some very good questions on the processes of the build and roles and responsibilities of the team involved. Clearly a lot of forethought had taken place by the students and we hope that the environment for learning that we have provided will be an inspiration for their future.’

Year Group Enterprise Workshops (Year 8 and 9)

  • Year 8 and 9 students delved into the intricacies of the Tyre Challenge. Their innovative spirits soared as they navigated real-world challenges, fostering teamwork and problem-solving skills.

McDonald’s Taste for Work Programme (Year 10)

  • Year 10 students embarked on a flavourful journey through the McDonald’s Taste for Work Programme. From front-line customer service to behind-the-counter operations, our students gained firsthand insights into the dynamic world of one of the globe’s leading fast-food establishments before creating their very own products. A special shout out to the basketball themed McDunkies with ‘Steph Curry Sauce’ and the Snoop Dogg inspired McDogg

These experiences not only expanded our students’ horizons but also equipped them with practical skills crucial for their future endeavours.

This term also saw the launch of our St Clere's Careers Facebook page, and the relaunch of our partnership with Unifrog, an interactive programme that will drive forward our careers provision for all over the coming years. All year groups had the opportunity to experience Unifrog first hand and I hope that this will be a valuable platform for all moving forwards.

Finally we are proud to have offered independent careers advice and guidance to all of our Year 11 students as they think about their next steps post 16.
This was supported by a mock interview day which saw 235 of our Year 11 students meet with one of 36 employers. Interviews were held both face to face and online with one employer calling in from India to support the day.

I look forward to bringing you more updates over the coming terms and sharing with you all the exciting changes within Careers.
